Interior Design: Lucas Valley Eichler Homes
Our home is an oasis where we can shut the door and separate from the world. Styling your home is a personal and creative outlet where we can exhibit an outward reflection of our style and taste.
When approaching a design project, the goal is to discover a client’s aesthetic. What’s your favorite color, room, artist, designer, heirloom furniture, or music?
With our clients, we select a theme and palette, map out a design layout, and plan to suit your lifestyle. Next, we can review with a Lookbook of our ideas, colors/textures, and possible design inspiration to approve and pinpoint our final direction.
Our most recent project was an Eichler home in San Rafael. Joseph Eichler was an American real estate developer known for his mid-century modern homes. His designs were inspired by the work of Frank Lloyd Wright and were characterized by their use of glass walls, open floor plans, and indoor-outdoor living spaces. Eichler homes were popular in California during the 1950s and 1960s and are still highly sought after today.
In this Eichler project, the family wanted a fun, playful look that suited their mid-century sunny home with a pool. The color was necessary, as well as the indoor-outdoor assimilation. We chose a David Hockney pool palette and incorporated the pool’s reflection throughout the house. Hockney is known for his vibrant use of color and ability to capture the essence of his subjects uniquely and expressively. Over the last year, we have created an extensive online fabric photo library. After the initial gathering of fabric options, we narrowed choices on-site with the physical fabric swatch.
Once the colors were selected, we began the layout of furniture, tile, and lighting selections.
On this project, we varied between Harrington custom /vintage pieces, new furniture from Gingko and Scandinavian Designs, vintage/new lighting, and Heath Tile.
When designing the living room, we wanted to create a space with a sharp mid-century look that was still warm and a functional/comfortable family space. So, we followed our color scheme and chose a strong yet spacious couch called the Inverness.
Below, you will find the family’s library/sitting room. This room needed to function as both a comfortable place to lounge and a formal entertaining space. So we added the ottoman that can be used both as a table and as a place to put one’s feet up after a long day, a feature that the family highly valued!
